Artist Bios
Sandra Bromley
is a multidisciplinary artist whose works have appeared in solo and group exhibitions in Europe and North America. Graduating from the University of Alberta in 1979 with a BFA (Distinction) in sculpture, Bromley has received numerous awards and grants throughout her career, including the 2000 Salute to Excellence Arts Award from the City of Edmonton, which she shared with Wallis Kendal for the Art of Peacemaking project and a 2002/3 Canadian Consortium for Human Security Fellowship (artworks concerned with issues of women and children in post conflict countries). Bromley's works can be found in collections in North America and Europe. She has spent over three full years trekking across the globe, enjoying the world's rich diversities of culture and human creativity. She now takes her family with her whenever possible, sharing with them her passion for travel and culture.
Wallis Kendal has been involved with art and youth at risk for more than 30 years. An artist, writer and social activist, Kendal's first novel, Just Gin, (Viking Press, New York and MacMillan Publishing, Toronto) was published in 1972, and many of his poems, short stories, editorials and plays have been either published or performed. In addition to creating works of art, he has designed children's toys and other products for the international market. Wallis was honoured with the City of Edmonton 2000 Salute to Excellence Arts Award (sharing the award with Sandra Bromley) Wallis has traveled to China, Ladakh, Kashmir, India, Nepal, Peru, Bolivia, Ecuador, Guatemala, Mexico, Kenya, Rwanda, Zaire, Uganda, Sudan, Egypt, and Israel. Most of his travel was by hard seat. He has hiked to Mount Everest, and throughout the mountains of Peru, where he retraced the Inca steps to Machu Pichu. He has climbed the Mountains of the Moon on the border of Uganda and Rwanda, and he's had the privilege of observing a family of Apes in the forest of Zaire.
